Who doesn’t have a cotton T-shirt in their wardrobe? No buttons, no zippers – the most chosen go-to garment.
White, printed, with a message, oversized, fitted, with sleeves, sleeveless – but always a T-shirt. Did you know that cotton T-shirts have only been around for a relatively short time?
Originally a men’s garment, something similar was worn under armor by knights, and later by soldiers during World War I for training and off-duty time. They started using them under their uniforms because they were so comfortable: no buttons, no zippers, no annoying seams – in short, the most comfortable piece of clothing ever.
The first time a T-shirt appeared in women’s fashion was when the incredible Coco Chanel decided it was perfect to pair with trousers or wear under women’s suits. Iconic movie figures like James Dean in the ’50s or Don Johnson in the ’80s made it trendy to the point that it’s now a staple in designer runways (like Dior’s Spring 2017 collection) because it elevates any look. Seriously, there’s no fashion brand that doesn’t include one in their collections!
The T-shirt is everyone’s favorite summer staple.
